Newtopia, the highly anticipated Korean zombie apocalypse series starring Park Jeong-min and BLACKPINK’s Jisoo, premieres on February 7.
The story follows Lee Jae-yoon (Park Jeong-min), who is serving his mandatory military service, and his girlfriend Kang Young-joo (Jisoo) as they race to reunite in zombie-infested Seoul. The series will premiere on Prime Video on February 7, and on Korean broadcaster Coupang Play on the same date.
Jae-yoon, who started his mandatory military service at a late age, is worried about his future. Due to the difficulties of being separated from his girlfriend Young-joo, they suddenly break up after an argument. However, a zombie outbreak spreads to the city, forcing Jae-yoon to step up as the leader of his team. Meanwhile, Young-joo experiences her own difficulties as a rookie in business. She becomes frustrated with Jae-yoon for misunderstanding her. On her way to see him, she witnesses a zombie attack and adapts to the situation in order to survive.
Im Sung-jae, Kim Jun-han, Jung-Min Park, and Kim Chan-hyung are the other actors in the cast of the 8-episode drama.
Award-winning actor Park Jeong-min is known for his versatility and impressive acting range. He made his debut in the acclaimed 2011 film Bleak Night and has since appeared in numerous films and dramas. Among his many accolades, he won the Best New Actor Award at both the Baeksang Arts Awards and the Blue Dragon Film Awards for his role in Dongju: The Portrait of a Poet, and the Best Supporting Actor Award for both Deliver Us From Evil.
Newtopia is directed by Yoon Sung-hyun, known for his work on Bleak Night and Time to Hunt, both of which starred Park Jeong-min. The series was written by Han Jin-won and Jee Ho-jin. Han Jin-won co-wrote the movie Parasite, and Jee Ho-jin co-wrote the series A Shop for Killers.
