Netflix’s latest faith-based docudrama “Testament: The Story of Moses” aims to shed light on the inner life and personal struggles of the iconic biblical figure in an attempt to start meaningful conversations (elements that are often overshadowed in traditional retellings of the story) about the human condition, according to the show’s producers.
Kelly McPherson, executive producer of the series, told The Christian Post: “I think of ‘The Prince of Egypt’ or ‘The Ten Commandments,’ and those are all great movies, but Moses seems to be presented almost as a superhuman character.”
“Put yourself in his shoes; there’s a burning bush and he’s telling you to do something that’s almost impossible to do. We like the idea of, ‘How did he find the resources to do this?’ Obviously he was inspired by God, but how did he find the courage to do it? We liked that he was a human being with flaws; he had to overcome a lot of things and by many accounts it was a tragic childhood. We liked to make him more human. He does superheroic things, yes, but there was something very, very human and very, very flawed about him.”
