Will Sharpe (White Lotus. Giri/Haji,) will play classical music genius Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in the Sky Original miniseries Amadeus. Sharpe will reunite with Giri/Haji writer Joe Barton and director Julian Farino. The series will shoot later this year and will be produced by Two Cities Television(Patrick Melrose) in association with Sky Studios.
The Sky Original series will tell the story of the legendary rivalry between the young Mozart and his fellow composer Antonio Salieri amidst a clash of jealousy, ambition and genius.
Based on Peter Shaffer’s 1979 play Amadeus (2024), the series is set in the musical center of bustling late 18th century Vienna; our 25-year-old protagonist is no longer a child and arrives in the city determined to make his own way. Recently unemployed and out of his father’s care, Amadeus unexpectedly allies himself with the fiery Constanze Weber, a young soprano who later becomes his wife. Constanze’s connections help bring Amadeus into the orbit of court composer Antonio Salieri, setting the three on a collision course that will ultimately determine their lives and legacies for years to come.
The cast will be announced in due course. Sky is also currently developing an adaptation of The Day of the Jackal starring Eddie Redmayne and a miniseries about the Lockerbie disaster starring Colin Firth.
Paul Gilbert, Megan Spanjian, Michael Jackson (Patrick Melrose) and Stephen Wright (Blue Lights) are executive producers. The 5-part series will be directed by Farino (Giri/Haji) and Alice Seabright (Chloe, Sex Education). Barton, Sharpe and Farino are also executive producers on the series.
Will Sharpe will next be seen as the lead actor in Lena Dunham’s romantic comedy TooMuch.
